ScienceTomorrow has developed a process to fabricate functionally graded material (FGM) components with excellent mechanical strength and high temperature properties for defense as well as commercial applications. ScienceTomorrow utilized spark discharge sintering (SDS, also known as spark plasma sintering, SPS) method for fabricating composite components with chemically dissimilar/incompatible materials. In this method, a pulsed dc current will be used simultaneously with a uniaxial pressure to consolidate powder with varying concentration across the cross-section.  In here, tungsten shell separated by a graded reaction barrier layer is seen.
